- 2 Yards of Solid Champagne Jaquard
- 1 Yard of Champagne Poly China Silk Lining
- Sewing Machine I'm using the XR9550 from Brother
- Scissors
- Thread
- Serger (Optional)
- 3 Yards of Sequin Trim
- 2 Yards of 2" Sequin Trim
- Iron
- Sewing Pins
- Awl
- Grommets and Puncher
- 1 Yard of Satin Ribbon
Great Gatsby Flapper Dress Tutorial
STEP 2 Cutting The Pattern
Cut out the pattern pieces, following the pattern guidelines.
STEP 3 Finish the Edges
Use a serger machine or the zig-zag function on your sewing machine (use a 3.5” stitch length and 2.5” stitch width) to finish all the fabric edges
STEP 5 Stitch Piece #1 to #2
Pin & stitch the side back (piece #2) to the back section (Piece #1) using a 3” stitch length.
STEP 7 Stitch Piece #2 to #3
Stitch piece #3 to the side front and side back (Piece #2) using a 3” stitch length.
STEP 10 Finish Edges Of #5 & #6
Using a serger or a Zig-zag stitch, finish the edges of pieces #5 & #6.
STEP 12 Finish Bottom Of #5 & #6
Finish the bottom edge of the joined pieces (#5 & #6) with a zig-zag stitch or with a serger machine.
STEP 13 Enclose Shoulder Strap
Pin and stitch the joined pieces (#5 & #6) to the right side of the dress with matching notches using a 3” stitch length. This step will enclose the shoulder strap.
STEP 14 Understitch The Facing
Turn the facing towards the inside. Now understitch the facing using a 3.5” stitch length.
STEP 16 Hemming
Hem the bottom edge of the dress by using a 3” stitch length.
STEP 18 Purse Preparation
For the purse, prepare two purse sections by pinning the fringe to the side edges.
STEP 19 Stitch Side
Pin and stitch the other two purse pieces (piece #7) on top of the fringed pieces with their right sides together. Using a 3” stitch length, stitch one side of the purse.
STEP 23 Stitch Lining Edges
Using a 3” stitch length, stitch the side edges of the purse lining together.
STEP 24 Stitch bottom Lining and Side Edges
Fold over the bottom edge of the purse lining and the side edges, then stitch them with a 3” stitch length.
STEP 25 Purse Facing
For the purse facing (piece # 8), pin the right sides together and stitch them with a 3” stitch length.
STEP 26 Pin Piece #8 and #7
Pin the facing (piece # 8) to the purse ( piece 7), ensuring their right sides are together.
STEP 27 Sew Facing To Purse
Stitch the dress by using a 3” stitch length to sew the facing to the purse.
STEP 28 Understitch Facing
Press the facing to the top edge of the purse, and understitch it by using a 3” stitch length.
STEP 29 Pin Purse Lining To Facing Seam
Pin the purse lining (piece #9) to the facing seam of the purse and stitch them together by using a 3” stitch length.
STEP 30 Slipstitch Facing and Lining
Turn the purse right side out and fold over the facing, inside of the purse. Slip-stitch the facing and lining together.
STEP 31 Punching Holes
Using an awl, punch 10 holes inside the upper edge of the purse. Using a grommet puncher, install 10 washers and grommets.
STEP 32 Purse Straps
Insert the ribbon and tie a knot at the end of the ribbon to form two purse straps.
