Ottertex® Waterproof Canvas fabric is a durable waterproof fabric that is constructed for a variety of indoor and outdoor applications.

Available in a variety of colors, this patented Ottertex® Waterproof Canvas fabric is crafted with 100% polyester fibers and measures 60/61" in width, and 59/60" without the selvage. This Ottertex® Waterproof Canvas fabric features a 0.55mm thickness with PVC backing and a calculated 600 x 600 denier; in other words, Ottertex® Waterproof Canvas fabric is strong enough for military and camping applications. This item is PFAS-free and has been updated with a PFAS-free coating.

Ottertex® Waterproof Canvas fabric weighs approximately 1.1lbs per linear yard making it convenient for transporting, while still heavy enough for extended use. Ottertex® Waterproof Canvas fabric is sold at wholesale prices by the yard. Ottertex® Waterproof Canvas fabric is also available in bulk, continuous roll sizes ranging from 25 to 50 yards.

Our Ottertex® Waterproof Canvas fabric may fade if it's exposed to the sun for too long (approximately 500 hours). To avoid this, we recommend selecting one of the available natural colors such as ivory, beige, or khaki.

What is the difference between Ottertex© Waterproof Canvas & duck canvas?

Both waterproof canvas and duck canvas are durable fabrics with vibrant color selections. Waterproof canvas is manufactured with 100% polyester fibers, PVC backing, and waterproof coatings, while duck canvas is made with 100% cotton fibers and is fairly absorbent. A major difference between waterproof canvas and duck canvas is that waterproof canvas is manufactured with a lower thread count, which makes the fabric feel grainier. Conversely, duck canvas is manufactured with a very high thread count which gives the fabric a smoother exterior. Waterproof canvas is also UV resistant (500 hours approximately), mold & mildew resistant, and wrinkle resistant, while duck canvas is a natural fabric without these additional qualities. Lastly, waterproof canvas can be cleaned with a damp cloth and a cleaning solution, while duck canvas is machine washable.

How sturdy is Ottertex© Waterproof Canvas?

Ottertex© Waterproof Canvas is a flexible and durable fabric that can withstand the elements of nature. At 0.55mm thick, Ottertex© Waterproof Canvas has a wearability rating of 25,000 double rubs (a measure of back and forth motions on a surface before the fabric deteriorates. For comparison, furniture in a hotel room is usually rated at 15,000-30,000 double rubs.), a tear rating of 74N warp and 55N Weft (the measure of how much force is required to tear waterproof canvas), a tensile strength rating of 1473N warp and 727N weft (the measure of how much weight waterproof canvas can hold, and a cold crack rating of -10° F or -23° C (the minimum temperature waterproof canvas with withstand). How to sew Ottertex© Waterproof Canvas fabric?

Ottertex© Waterproof Canvas can be sewn by hand or with any sewing machine; a heavy duty machine is suggested but not required. Some additional sewing accessories are also recommended but not required, such as clips, double stick tape, size 90+ or upholstery needles, size 40+ thread, an awl, and a thimble. Lastly a walking foot can be attached to your sewing machine, or you can increase the stitch length if you need to sew through multiple layers.

I’m making garden flags out of these and the fabric works perfectly for them. It’s sturdy and resistant to wrinkles making it easy to work with. Shipping was faster than my last order, but still took a little under 2 weeks to get to me. I understand they have been getting more orders due to a fabric retailer closing, and I hope they’re working on how to better handle the influx of orders.
