Linen naturally becomes softer after each wash. To speed up this process, replace your laundry detergent with baking soda in the washing machine. Additionally you can replace your fabric softener with a 1:1 solution of white vinegar and water.
What is linen fabric made from?

How to wash linen fabric before sewing?
Linen, like most natural fabrics will experience a shrinkage of 3-10% when washed. Linen Is Wonderful! --- And Great For Many Applications
I adore linen, even if not always adoring the price. Even washing this fabric on its own, gentle cycle, with nothing else in the washing machine, this significantly frayed. I don't have an overlocking machine and even if I did I likely wouldn't serge the fabric before washing it as I only use natural threads on natural fabrics. Sturdy enough for an apron, wonderful enough for a skirt, great for a dress, I want to buy more! I hope FWD sources other 100% linen options, such as Irish linens or other high quality linens. Again, this fabric frayed a lot. As well, some parts were very inconsistent, more/less opaque when holding it up to the light. This was noticeable on a skirt that was not gathered, so I repurposed it for an apron. I'd still repurchase assuming I just received a less than perfect cut.

Ideal For Many Types of Clothing
I bought these samples to get a feel for how the fabric would do in a set of trousers, or a sports coat. I really want to make summer garments that are breathable and this affordable linen seemed perfect for the job. There is an excellent amount of color choice and I think this would make the perfect base for a set of pants and jacket. You could probably get a way with using it for a top, though it feels slightly on the heavy side for that, perhaps a winter top?

Soft, wearable linen at a great price
This linen is soft and has nice drape, and it's opaque enough that I don't need a lining for the shorts I'm making with it. Colors in person match the website. I will definitely buy more

Great Quality, Gorgeous Colors
This is my second purchase of the Yorkshire linen. The weight, quality and price are all wonderful. What really won me over was how rich the jewel-toned colors I bought are. I can't wait to get sewing with them!

Great Linen
I love this linen. Very beautiful, earthy color. Not as soft as pure linen. Very lightweight.

Yorkshire linen
This is excellent linen fabric, great weight for pants and jackets. I have purchased almost all colors you have. It’s easy to sew this fabric. I love linen, and I wish you could have printed linen too.
