STEPS: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

STEP 1 Pin The Pattern

The first thing we are going to do is pin pattern pieces 14 and 15 to the stretch velvet fabric .We’re going to pin all the way to the midline.

STEP 2 Cut The Pieces

After cutting the pieces out we’re going to face the “right sides” together of the front short piece with the back like shown above. We’re going to pin and sew the crotch section and the side seams.

STEP 3 Stitching

Since the fabric is stretchy, make sure you’re using the zig zag stitch.

STEP 4 Checkpoint

After step 2, your garment should look like what is shown below.

STEP 5 Elastic Cutting

Now it’s time for the elastic waistband! I recommended getting 3 yards of elastic, but it all depends on your waist. What you’re going to do is wrap the elastic around where you want the shorts to lay and cut it. Then we’re going to fold over the top of the shorts over the elastic like shown above. Make sure you hook the safety pin at the tip, you’re going to use the safety pin to drag the elastic around the top of the garment.

STEP 6 Checkpoint

Make sure you leave a small opening in the top of the fabric so you can insert the elastic. Your garment should look like what’s shown below without the elastic.

STEP 7 Insert Elastic

Next, We’re going to insert the elastic through the small slit we left open. Drag the elastic/safety pin around the garment.

STEP 8 Sew The Elastic

After, we’re going to sew together both of the tips of the elastic like shown below. Then, stitch the slit close to the waist of the garment.

STEP 9 Hemming

Finally, we’re going to hem, the bottom of the shorts on both sides. Stitch at ⅝” of an inch on the sewing machine.
